2018

September:

June:

  • Our very own Bonnie Scott is the recipient of the 2018 Walter G. McMillen Memorial Award for Parkinson Disease Research from APA Division 20!
  • Dr. Bowers and her colleagues at UF (Dr. Adam Woods) and U. Arizona (Dr. Gene Alexander) were awarded a McKnight Brain Research Foundation grant to pilot a novel, low cost intervention for improving cognition (memory, executive function) in healthy older adults experiencing normal age-related changes.

April:

  • Alumni Dr. Jacob Jones is the recipient of the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology (Division 40, APA) Early Career Pilot Award.  His project, entitled “The gut-brain axis in Parkinson’s disease:  Influences of microbiota on cognition and white matter”, is based on observations that early signs of PD pathology (alpha synuclein / Lewy body aggregates) are detected in the GI tract years before motor symptoms manifest. He will be testing the novel hypothesis that microbiota abundance (particularly in taxa associated with immune responses) will be associated with cognitive impairment and decreased white matter integrity in individuals with PD.

March:

  • Congratulations to our first year, Brittany Rohl, whose research , “Construct validity of the UF DBS Cognitive Rating Scale in 270 patients” was selected for presentation at the 2018 APA late breaking poster session “Cutting Edge Research for Emerging Psychological Scientists.
  • Alumni Dr. Laura Zahodne has been selected as University of Florida Outstanding Young Alumni for 2018!
